Home Theater
Subwoofers
As the popularity of the home theater has grown, so has the
appreciation for the home theater subwoofer.
With the improvements in DVD's with Blu-Ray and such, the
home theater experience is really taking off. Of course one of
the main contributing factors to home theater is the sound
system. Home theater subwoofers are becoming more and more
important to the overall home theater experience. The deep bass
originating from your subwoofer contributes greatly to the
amount of your enjoyment of any movie. These home theater
subwoofers are especially developed just for this type of
experience. They are capable of reproducing the lowest of
audible frequencies.
As you are drawn into the picture with its center channel
dialogue, the main soundtracks producing the surround sound
effects, the home theater subwoofer produces just the deep bass
portion of the movie soundtrack. These specialized subwoofers
are available as passive or powered speakers. Passive
subwoofers need to be powered by an external amplifier just as
all the other speakers are in your home theater system. Powered
subwoofers are self-contained speakers with a built-in
amplifier. This type of subwoofer needs a line output from your
home theater amplifier. This setup allows the amplifier to
power the midrange speakers and tweeters more easily. This is
fine for a lower powered amplifier.
The other characteristics associated with a home theater
subwoofer is that is can be front-firing or down-firing and use
ports or passive radiators in its construction. The direction
of firing speaks for itself. Some enclosures employ a port
which forces more air movement, increasing the bass response
more so then in a sealed enclosure. A passive radiator is used
instead of a port to increase the subwoofer's efficiency and
sound.
Regardless of what type of subwoofer your chose, anyone
seeking to enjoy their DVDs or HD movies will appreciate a good
home theater subwoofer.
